Trip duration guide

How many days do you need in Bali?

Quick answer: We recommend 7-10 days in Bali for a first visit. Five days is the absolute minimum (Ubud + one beach area) but feels rushed. Seven days lets you do Ubud + Canggu/Uluwatu + a Nusa Penida day-trip. Ten to fourteen days adds the Gili Islands or East Bali at a relaxed pace.

How many days for what kind of trip

3 days

Bali is too far for 3 days. Either stay in Asia generally or extend the trip. Three days = exhausted from jet lag + travel.

5 days (minimum)

3 days Ubud (rice terraces, temples, jungle) + 2 days beach (Canggu surf or Uluwatu cliffs). Workable but compressed.

7 days (recommended)

3 days Ubud + 3 days beach (split between Canggu + Uluwatu) + 1 day for Nusa Penida (Kelingking Beach iconic shot). Best first-trip duration.

10 days

Add 2-3 days for Gili Islands (Lombok-adjacent islands with snorkeling and beach time) + buffer for a spa day or yoga retreat. The sweet spot for slow travel.

14+ days

Add East Bali (Amed, Sidemen) for quieter, less-developed Bali. Or a Komodo Island side trip for dragons + snorkeling.

How length shapes your Bali trip

Bali traffic is significant. More days = less stress moving between zones. Most travelers underestimate the 60-90 min drives between Ubud, Canggu, and Uluwatu.

What to skip if you have less time

If you only have 5 days, pick ONE base (Ubud OR a beach area) and do day-trips rather than splitting.
