Barcelona in 3 days: the perfect weekend itinerary

Barcelona delivers a complete trip in 3 days because the city is walkable and the iconic sites cluster geographically. This route covers Gaudi’s masterpieces, the Gothic Quarter, the beach, and tapas culture.

Day 1

Day 1: Gaudi day (Sagrada, Casa Batllo, Park Guell)

Morning

Sagrada Familia at 9am (timed entry, 26-40 EUR including audio guide). Allow 2 hours inside. The light filtering through stained glass is the experience.

Afternoon

Walk south along Avinguda Diagonal to Casa Batllo and Casa Mila on Passeig de Gracia. Lunch at a Eixample tapas bar (Tapas 24 or Cervezeria Catalana).

Evening

Park Guell late afternoon (timed entry, 10 EUR). Sunset from the upper park (free section). Dinner in Gracia (Bar Bodega Quimet or Cal Boter for traditional Catalan).

If you have an extra hour

Hospital de Sant Pau (3-min walk from Sagrada) is the underrated Art Nouveau alternative.

Day 2

Day 2: Gothic Quarter, El Born, Barceloneta

Morning

Gothic Quarter walking tour (free, multiple operators or self-guided). Hit Placa Sant Jaume, Placa Reial, and the Cathedral. Coffee in Placa Sant Felip Neri.

Afternoon

Walk into El Born for the Picasso Museum (free Thursday after 5pm; otherwise 15 EUR). Lunch at El Xampanyet (1929 vermouth bar, classic Born stop).

Evening

Sunset at Barceloneta beach. Dinner at La Mar Salada (paella, riverside terrace) or Bar del Pla (modern tapas, El Born). Drinks at Boadas (oldest cocktail bar in Barcelona) or El Born’s wine bars.

If you have an extra hour

Boqueria market for evening snacking (closed Sunday).

Day 3

Day 3: Montjuic and Modernism

Morning

Take the funicular up to Montjuic. National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC, 14 EUR, closed Monday) or Fundacio Joan Miro. Walking around the gardens.

Afternoon

Lunch in the Poble-Sec neighborhood at the base of Montjuic – Tickets (closed; ALBA spinoff) or Quimet & Quimet for the famous canned-seafood tapas.

Evening

Camp Nou tour or match (if Barca plays). Or sunset at Bunkers del Carmel (free public viewpoint, 360° of Barcelona). Final dinner at Disfrutar (top-50 world restaurant, book 3 months ahead) or Bodega 1900.

Magic Fountain show at Plaça Espanya (Thursday-Sunday evenings, free).
