Trip duration guide

How many days do you need in Paris?

Quick answer: We recommend at least 4 days in Paris, with 5-6 being the sweet spot for a first visit. Three days is rushed; four covers the icons (Louvre, Eiffel, Notre Dame) plus one neighborhood. Five adds Versailles + a museum like Orsay. Seven gives you breathing room.

How many days for what kind of trip

2 days

Day 1: Louvre + Notre Dame area. Day 2: Eiffel Tower + Champs-Élysées. Misses way too much — only for connecting flights.

3 days (minimum)

Add Day 3 for Montmartre + Sacré-Cœur + Marais walking. Workable as a focused Paris stay.

4 days

Add Versailles day-trip (closed Monday) OR Musée d’Orsay + Saint-Germain café day. Good first-trip foundation.

5-6 days (recommended)

Add Pere Lachaise Cemetery + a serious bistro lunch + Marché aux Puces. Best first-trip duration.

7+ days

Add Champagne or Loire Valley day-trip + a museum like Centre Pompidou + neighborhood exploration in 11th or 20th arrondissement.

How length shapes your Paris trip

Paris museums are dense (Louvre alone needs 3-4 hours). Multiple days = breaking up museum fatigue with café breaks and Seine walks.

What to skip if you have less time

If you only have 3 days, pick ONE major museum (Louvre OR Orsay, not both) and skip Versailles for next trip.
