Spain Digital Nomad Visa Guide

Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa launched + has become a favorite. Here’s the complete guide.

Eligibility

Non-EU citizen with remote job (employed or freelance). Minimum monthly income: 200% of Spanish minimum wage (~€2,646/month = 31,752/year). Work from outside Spain (max 20% can be from Spanish clients). Health insurance + university degree OR 3 years experience.

Application path

From abroad: apply at Spanish consulate in home country (1-year visa). From Spain: apply within 3 months of arrival on tourist visa (3-year residence permit). Online portal: sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es

Documents required

Passport. Employment contract or freelance work proof. Income proof (3+ months bank statements). University degree or 3 years experience proof. Criminal background check (apostilled). Health insurance (Spanish requirements: cero deductible, full coverage). Birth + marriage certificates if family included.

Tax benefits (Beckham Law)

First 6 years in Spain: 24% flat tax on Spanish income up to €600k (vs progressive 45%+). Foreign income NOT taxed if not earned in Spain. Family members under one visa eligible for Beckham Law too.

Path to permanent residence

5 years on digital nomad visa = permanent residence (Larga duración). 10 years total = Spanish citizenship (Latin Americans + Sephardic Jews + Filipinos can qualify in 2 years). Family included at year-2 renewal.

Pro tip: The visa is faster + cheaper to apply for from inside Spain on a tourist visa than from abroad. Many digital nomads enter Spain visa-free (90 days for US/UK/Canada), apply at extranjería office, get response in 20 days = 3-year residence permit instead of 1-year initial.
