How long do you actually need?
Match the trip to your time, not the other way round. As a rule of thumb: a weekend or 3 days covers one city without rushing; 5–7 days suits one country’s highlights or two nearby cities; 10 days lets you pair two regions at a human pace; and two to three weeks is grand-tour territory — island-hopping, multi-country routes, or one country in real depth. Every plan below lists a realistic daily budget; sanity-check it against our Travel Cost Index, and lock your month with the Best Time to Visit Index before you book.
Itinerary FAQ
How many days do you need for a first trip?
For a single city, 3 full days covers the essentials without rushing. For a country’s highlights, plan 7–10 days. Shorter works best as a focused weekend break; longer lets you add a second region or slow the pace.
What’s the difference between the city and country plans?
City itineraries (3–5 days) are hour-by-hour for one place. Country and regional plans (7 days to 3 weeks) move between bases and tell you how long to spend in each and how to travel between them.
Are these itineraries really free?
Yes — every plan is free to read in full, no paywall. They’re funded by our own trips and reader-supported affiliate links, never sponsored placements.
Can I combine two itineraries?
Often, yes. Neighbouring routes are built to link up — for example a 7-day country plan plus a 3-day city break next door. Each plan notes the nearest onward options.
