The deciding factor: are you here for one wonder or a thousand?

Choose Egypt if you want sheer archaeological volume; choose Jordan if you want one or two unforgettable sites without the crowds and hustle. The scale gap is the decider, and it just widened. The Grand Egyptian Museum fully opened on November 4, 2025, two kilometers from the Giza pyramids, holding more than 100,000 artifacts including, for the first time, the complete 5,000-piece Tutankhamun collection under one roof. It is the largest museum on earth devoted to a single civilization, and you can pair it with the plateau in a single morning.

Jordan trades that volume for a tighter, calmer hit list. Petra and Wadi Rum sit a short drive apart, and the Jordan Pass bundles the Petra ticket with your visa from 70 JOD (one Petra day) up to 80 JOD (three days), waiving the visa fee entirely if you stay at least two nights. Skip the pass and a single-day visitor who does not overnight in Jordan pays 90 JOD just to enter Petra. Pick Egypt for the Nile-to-Giza density of monuments. Pick Jordan for an unhurried trip built around two or three sites you will never forget.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do Egypt and Jordan together?
Yes – easy combo. Direct flights Cairo to Amman run 90 minutes. Plan 12-16 days: 7-9 Egypt (Cairo + Nile cruise), 5-7 Jordan (Petra + Wadi Rum + Dead Sea).
Which is cheaper?
Egypt, by ~30%. Egypt bundles costs efficiently via Nile cruise packages. Jordan has higher hotel + activity pricing but more polished experience.
Which is safer for solo female travelers?
Jordan – far less harassment, more women-traveler-friendly tourism infrastructure. Egypt has more hassle (Cairo especially) but tour groups manage it well.
How much time at Petra?
Minimum 2 full days. Day 1: main route through Siq to Treasury + Monastery. Day 2: side trails (High Place of Sacrifice, Little Petra). Premium: Petra by Night candle show.
Which has better diving?
Tie – both border the Red Sea. Egypt Hurghada/Sharm el-Sheikh are bigger dive destinations. Jordan Aqaba is smaller but equally beautiful coral.
