Black Friday 2027 falls on Friday 26 November, the day after Thanksgiving on the 25th, with Cyber Monday following on the 29th. In travel, this weekend produces a handful of genuinely good offers and a very large amount of theatre. The difference is learnable, and knowing it is worth more than any single sale.
What actually discounts in travel
- Hotel loyalty points and gift cards. Buying points at a discount, or gift cards with bonus value, is one of the few places the saving is unambiguous because the underlying currency does not change price.
- Cruise lines. Cruises discount hard around this weekend because they price on filling a fixed, perishable inventory. Deposits, onboard credit and cabin upgrades are all genuinely negotiable now.
- Tour operators and multi-day trips. Small-group operators run real Black Friday pricing, often with a low deposit. These are among the better buys because the product is fixed and the discount is on a published price.
- Luggage, gear and travel insurance. Physical goods behave like ordinary retail, so the discounts are real and comparable.
- Hotel advance-purchase rates. Chains do release genuine non-refundable rates for future stays. The saving is real; the flexibility is what you are giving up.
What only looks discounted
- Most flights. Airlines price dynamically all year and rarely discount below what their algorithm would have offered anyway. A ‘Black Friday fare’ is usually a normal sale fare with a banner on it. The exception is a genuine route launch or a head-to-head fare war, which can happen any week.
- Percentage-off claims with no reference price. ‘Up to 70% off’ is meaningless without knowing what it is off. Check the same room or trip on a neutral date before believing it.
- Package holidays with inflated anchor prices. The headline saving is frequently measured against a price nobody paid.
- Anything with a countdown timer. Urgency is a sales mechanism, not evidence of value. The same offer is usually available the following week.
When the sales actually run
- They start well before the day. Most travel brands now open Black Friday pricing in the week beginning Monday 22 November 2027, and some run the whole month. Waiting for the Friday itself is usually a mistake.
- Cyber Monday, 29 November, is a separate event and tends to be more online-only and more flash-sale driven. Some operators hold their best online pricing back for it.
- The genuinely quiet buying window is early December. Unsold inventory after the weekend is often repriced without any campaign attached to it.
- January is the real sale season for summer travel. The industry calls it peaks season, and it consistently produces better package pricing than November.
How to check a travel deal in two minutes
- Price the same thing somewhere else first. Open the hotel’s own site and one neutral comparison, on identical dates and room type, before you look at the offer.
- Read what the discount excludes. Taxes, resort fees, baggage and transfers are where an apparent saving disappears.
- Check the cancellation terms before the price. A non-refundable rate booked thirteen months ahead is a bet on your own plans, and for most people that is the real cost.
- Check whether the dates are any good. A large discount on a week you did not want is not a saving. Blackout dates around school holidays are standard.
- For cruises and tours, ask what the deposit protects. A low deposit with a generous move-the-date policy is worth more than a slightly larger headline discount.
What is worth buying for 2027 specifically
- Anything tied to the 2 August 2027 total solar eclipse. Accommodation along the centre line in Egypt and southern Spain is the most constrained inventory of the year, and it will not get cheaper. If an operator is selling an eclipse trip at a Black Friday price, that is one of the few genuine time-sensitive buys on the list.
- Brazil for the Women’s World Cup, 24 June to 25 July 2027. Host-city accommodation prices on scarcity rather than season.
- Australia for the Rugby World Cup in October and November 2027, where long-haul fares are the largest single cost and worth watching through the weekend.
- Ski weeks for early 2028, where advance-purchase rates released now are usually the lowest the season will see.
