Power Plugs, Sockets & Voltage by Country (2026): Which Adapter Do You Need?

Pack the wrong adapter and your charger will not fit the wall — pack the wrong voltage and you can fry your device. This is Packzup's Power Plug & Voltage Index: the plug type, mains voltage and frequency for 62 countries, plus whether US travelers need a plug adapter, a voltage converter, or both. Updated for 2026.

Adapter vs. converter — the one thing to get right: A plug adapter only changes the shape of the pins so your plug fits the socket. A voltage converter changes the electricity itself (e.g. 230V down to 120V). Most phone, tablet and laptop chargers are dual-voltage (check the label for “100-240V”) and need only an adapter anywhere. Single-voltage US appliances — many hair dryers, straighteners and shavers — need a converter in 220-240V countries, or they will burn out.

Is there a universal travel adapter that works everywhere?

How do I know if my device is dual-voltage?
