The peak of everything

- The Aegean – low thirties with the meltem at its strongest, which is what makes Bodrum and Cesme workable and Alacati world-class for windsurfing.
- The Black Sea and the Kackar – green, humid and much cooler; the highland yayla season is at its peak.

Turkey has a real summer wildfire season on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, concentrated in July and August, and severe years have forced evacuations of coastal resorts. Treat it as a planning input rather than an abstraction:
- Follow instructions from local authorities and hotel staff immediately if an evacuation is announced.
- Do not light fires or barbecues outside designated areas, and note that forest access is restricted on high-risk days.
- 112 is the emergency number in Turkey.
- Take travel insurance that covers disruption, and keep a spare day before an international flight.
Most visitors are unaffected, but the risk is genuine enough to be worth stating plainly.
Victory Day, 30 August
Monday 30 August 2027 is Zafer Bayrami, marking the decisive 1922 victory at Dumlupinar in the War of Independence. It is a national public holiday with military parades and ceremonies, and falling on a Monday it makes a three-day weekend – the last big domestic travel push of the summer.

- The Black Sea coast and the Kackar mountains – green, cooler, and the one genuinely different Turkey.
- Eastern Anatolia – Lake Van, Mount Nemrut and the high plateau, hot by day but cool at night.
- Cappadocia at dawn – the valleys before nine are excellent.
- Istanbul, which is cheaper than the coast and has the Bosphorus, the Princes’ Islands and the Black Sea beaches at Kilyos and Sile within reach.
