Vietnam Visa Requirements 2026: 90-Day Visa-Free Update

Quick answer: Citizens of 13 countries (including UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea) now get 90 days visa-free. US, Australian, Canadian citizens get 45 days visa-free. E-Visa available for $25 if you need longer or are from non-eligible country.

90-day visa-free (since 2023-2025)

Citizens of 13 countries: UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Belarus. Single or multiple entries within 90 days.

45-day visa-free (since 2024)

Citizens of additional countries including US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India (partial), many others. Single entry, 45 days.

E-Visa for everyone else

Apply at the official Vietnamese e-visa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). $25 fee. 3-5 business day processing. Up to 90 days single or multiple entry.

How to apply for e-Visa

Upload passport photo + passport scan. Specify arrival and exit airport. Pay $25 by credit card. Receive PDF approval by email. Print and bring to airport.

Beyond e-Visa: Tourist Visa

Apply at Vietnamese embassy/consulate. Can be longer-term + multiple entry. Costs more ($80-200). Use this for stays beyond e-Visa limits.

Documents required

Passport valid 6+ months. E-visa printout (if applicable). Onward ticket (often requested). Accommodation address for first night.

Common issues

E-visa specifies entry + exit point — if you change those, you may need a new visa. Overstay penalties are $20+ per day plus potential 5-year ban.

Travel between regions

Once in Vietnam, no internal visa restrictions. You can freely move between Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, etc.
