Outside those days it is still low season, still cheap, and the monuments are still quiet.
Ramazan Bayrami, 9–11 March 2027
The Seker Bayrami, or sugar feast, closes Ramadan. The eve is Monday 8 March and the official holiday runs Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March, often extended to bridge the weekend.
What it means in Istanbul specifically:
- The city empties. Large numbers of residents travel to family elsewhere in Turkey, and central Istanbul is noticeably quieter.
- Roads out are heavy on the arefe, and intercity buses, trains and domestic flights sell out well ahead.
- Many shops and offices close; restaurants, hotels and the major sights keep running.
- Children go door to door for sweets, cologne is offered to guests, and it is a warm, family-centred few days rather than a public spectacle.
If you are staying in Istanbul it is a good time to be there. If you are moving on to Cappadocia or the coast, book that transport weeks ahead.

March averages about 11°C by day and 5°C at night, with roughly 77 mm of rain. It is changeable rather than cold – a bright 15°C afternoon and a wet 8°C one can fall in the same week – and the light returns noticeably through the month.

What March is for
- Neighbourhood walking. Balat, Fener, Kuzguncuk, Arnavutkoy and Kadikoy are at their best before the season – steep, colourful and uncrowded.

- The monuments, still without the April-to-October queues.
- Prices, which stay at low-season levels outside the bayram.
