The weather, precisely
March is the crossover. The first half still feels like winter season – walkable, pleasant, cool evenings. By the last week, midday is hot enough that you start planning around it, and the 30°C days arrive. The sea, though, is better than at any point in the winter season: 23°C and climbing.
March and April also bring the shamal – north-westerly winds that can raise dust for a day or two, turning the skyline hazy and making desert trips less appealing. It passes.
Eid al-Fitr, around 10 March 2027
Ramadan is expected to end around 9 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around 10 March, confirmed by moon sighting. The UAE typically grants a multi-day public holiday. What it means practically:
- The city is extremely busy. Eid is a domestic and regional travel peak – malls, beaches, restaurants and attractions are packed, and hotel rates jump.
- Book everything in advance, particularly restaurants and any attraction with timed entry.
- Some government services and offices close for the holiday days; shops and attractions mostly do not.
- Normal life resumes immediately after – live music returns, nightlife reopens, working hours go back to normal.
The days right after Eid are a good window: excellent weather, the Ramadan restrictions lifted, and the holiday rush over.
The Dubai World Cup, 27 March 2027
The Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse is the richest horse race meeting in the world and is normally held on the last Saturday of March – 27 March in 2027. It is a genuine social event: a strict dress code, hats, a full afternoon and evening card, and a concert and fireworks afterwards.
Tickets are sold in tiers from general admission upwards and the grandstand sells out. Hotel rates across the city rise for that weekend.
What March is for
- The beach, properly. With the sea at 23°C and air at 28°C, March is arguably the best beach month – better than January, when the water is cold, and better than May, when the air is too hot.
- The desert, in the first half especially. Nights are mild rather than cold now.
- Old Dubai on foot – Al Fahidi, the Creek, the gold and spice souks, the abra crossing. Do it in the morning.
- Global Village, which runs to around late April, and the Miracle Garden, open to about May.
- Outdoor brunches and rooftops, in their last good weeks.
Prices and crowds

What to pack
Summer clothing, with a light layer for evenings early in the month – by late March you will not need it. Modest options for mosques, souks and older districts. Strong sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat: the March sun is much stronger than the temperature suggests. Smart clothes if you are going to the World Cup, which enforces a dress code.
