It is still a perfectly good trip if you build it around indoors and water, and it is much cheaper than the winter. But it is not a sightseeing month. Eid al-Adha falls around 17 May 2027.
The weather, precisely
Two things to understand about May:
- The nights stop helping. At 26°C overnight, the early evening is still hot. Outdoor dining becomes an exercise in finding misting fans and shade rather than a pleasure.
- Humidity starts climbing. May is drier than August, but coastal humidity builds through the month, and the “feels like” figure begins to run well above the thermometer.
Sun in May is intense – close to the annual maximum in terms of UV. Twenty minutes unprotected at midday is enough to burn.

Eid al-Adha is expected around 17 May 2027, confirmed by moon sighting, and the UAE normally grants a multi-day public holiday around it including Arafat Day.
- Hotels and flights spike for the holiday period – it is a major regional travel window.
- Malls, attractions and restaurants are busy and stay open late; many run Eid events and offers.
- Government offices and some services close for the holiday days.
- Book anything with timed entry in advance, and avoid arriving or departing on the first or last holiday day.
Either side of Eid week, May is one of the cheapest months of the year.
How to do May well
The city is built for this. A good May trip is deliberately indoor-led:
- Museum of the Future, the Dubai Frame, Dubai Aquarium, the Burj Khalifa decks – all air-conditioned and all better without winter queues.
- Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates, which is genuinely funny and genuinely cold when it is 38°C outside.
- Hotel pools and beach clubs. Many chill their pools in summer, which sounds absurd until you swim in 33°C water. Ask whether the pool is cooled, not heated, when booking a May to September stay.
- Waterparks – Aquaventure and Wild Wadi are the sensible way to be outside in May.
- Evening desert safaris, departing at sunset.
- The souks and old Dubai before 9am, or not at all.
Prices and crowds
Low season is beginning and rates drop sharply outside Eid week – often half the January figure for the same room, with the better hotels discounting hardest. Attractions are quiet. Loose, light, covering clothing – covering up in dry heat genuinely helps. A hat, high-factor sunscreen and sunglasses are not optional. A light layer for indoors, because Dubai’s air conditioning is set aggressively cold and the contrast is severe. Swimwear, a refillable water bottle, and comfortable sandals. Modest options for mosques, souks and older districts.
