Dubai in September: Still August at the Start, the Good Season by the End

Reviewed September 2026

September is the turn, but it is a slow one. The month opens indistinguishable from August – around 39°C, humid, a 33°C sea – and closes noticeably softer, with the first evenings you would willingly spend outdoors. Prices follow the same curve, which is why the first half of September is one of the quiet bargains of the Dubai year.

Averages hide what matters here. September is a month of two halves:

  • The first two weeks are still August. High humidity, a heat index above 45°C, and no usable outdoor hours between mid-morning and sunset.
  • The last week is the beginning of the good season. Daytime highs come down towards 35°C, humidity eases, and evenings become genuinely pleasant for the first time since April.

The UAE midday break rule for outdoor work ends in mid-September, which is as good a marker as any for when the worst is over.

Why the first half is good value

Hotel rates stay at summer levels into September while the weather is already improving slightly, and then climb steadily from late September as the season restarts. If you want the cheapest possible rate on a good hotel with slightly less punishing conditions than August, the first two weeks of September are the window.

Attractions are also at their quietest before the autumn season begins.

By late September the evenings are usable again, and outdoor terraces begin to reopen across the city.

What reopens

  • Outdoor terraces, rooftops and beach clubs start coming back in the last week or two, though many wait for October.
  • Desert safaris extend from evening-only back towards late-afternoon departures at the very end of the month.
  • Global Village does not reopen until around mid-October, and the Miracle Garden around November – neither is available in September.
  • Dubai Summer Surprises ends with August, so the summer promotions are over.

What September is for

  • A cheap hotel-led trip in the first half, with a chilled pool and indoor days.
  • The indoor attractions at their emptiest – Museum of the Future, the Dubai Frame, the aquarium, the Burj Khalifa decks.
  • Waterparks, still ideal.
  • Late September for the first proper evening walks along the marina, the canal and JBR.

Prices and crowds

A rising curve. Early September is near the annual floor; by the last week rates have begun the climb that continues through October and November into the winter peak. Business travel resumes from mid-month, which firms up midweek city-centre hotels first. See what a Dubai trip costs.

What to pack

Summer clothing, loose and covering. A hat, strong sunscreen, sunglasses. A layer for indoor air conditioning, which is still set very cold. Swimwear, sandals, a refillable bottle. If you are travelling in the last week, add one light evening layer – you may actually want to sit outside. Modest options for mosques, souks and older districts.

The September 2027 calendar

  • First two weeks – effectively August conditions; near-floor hotel rates.
  • Mid-September – the UAE midday break rule for outdoor work ends.
  • From mid-September – business travel resumes; midweek rates begin to firm.
  • Last week of September – highs towards 35°C, humidity easing, evenings usable again.
  • Late September – terraces and beach clubs begin reopening; desert safaris extend to late afternoon.
  • No fixed UAE public holidays fall in September 2027.
