September is the month Marrakech becomes usable again. The heat eases from August’s 37°C to about 33°C by day and 19°C at night, and keeps falling through the month, so the last ten days are close to the spring conditions people book April for – at rates that have not yet caught up. It is one of the better value windows of the year.
The turn, and where the value sits
September splits cleanly. The first half is still summer: hot, dry, an early-morning-and-evening city. The second half drops noticeably, and by the last week Marrakech is comfortable for most of the day again.
Because European visitors do not return in numbers until October, late September gives you October conditions at summer prices – which is the specific recommendation worth acting on from this page.

September averages about 33°C by day and 19°C at night, with roughly 15 mm of rain – the first measurable rain since spring, usually as one or two short storms. The evenings become properly pleasant, and the nights are cool enough to sleep without air conditioning by the end of the month.

- The desert. Agafay becomes workable again in late September, and Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes return to their season from October – so a late-September trip can just about reach them.
- All-day medina walking, from about the third week.
- The rooftops, which were an evening-only proposition in July and August.
- The Atlas, still excellent and now without the summer crowds on the trekking routes.
Mint tea, and the etiquette
You will be offered mint tea constantly – in shops, in riads, at any point where someone wants you to sit down. It is genuine hospitality and it is also a sales technique, and both things are true at once.
The useful points: it is poured from a height to aerate it and build a head; it is very sweet by default and you can ask for less sugar; accepting a glass in a shop does not oblige you to buy, though it does change the dynamic; and declining politely is entirely acceptable – a hand on the heart and “la, shukran” is the normal way.
Prices and crowds
Low through the first half and rising only at the very end as the October season approaches. It is the last month before the autumn peak, and the last week of September is the best weather-to-price trade of the second half of the year.
