March 2027 is an exceptional month in Spain, because two of the country’s biggest events land inside it. Las Fallas burns Valencia on 15–19 March, and then Semana Santa runs 21–28 March, with Easter Sunday on the 28th – unusually early, which pulls Holy Week out of April and compresses the entire spring. The clocks also go forward on the 28th.
Las Fallas, Valencia – 15 to 19 March
Las Fallas is fixed to the same dates every year and is unlike anything else in Europe. Neighbourhood associations spend a year building satirical monuments – some five storeys tall – install them in the streets, and then burn them all on the last night.
- Daily from 1 March, 14:00 – the mascletà in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento: a five-minute percussive explosion designed to be felt rather than seen. Free, and genuinely startling.
- 15–19 March – the monuments are up and the city is one continuous street party, with fireworks over the Turia most nights.
- 17–18 March – the Ofrenda de Flores, a two-day procession of thousands in regional dress carrying flowers to build a vast Virgin.
- Night of 19 March – La Cremà, when every monument in the city is set alight, the winning one last.
Valencia is completely full for it. Book months ahead, expect to walk everywhere because the centre is closed to traffic, and bring ear protection if you are sensitive to noise – this is not an exaggeration.
Semana Santa, 21–28 March 2027
Holy Week runs from Palm Sunday on 21 March to Easter Sunday on 28 March 2027, and it is the most important week in the Spanish calendar after Christmas. Brotherhoods (cofradías) carry enormous pasos – sculptural floats – through the streets, accompanied by drums, brass and penitents in pointed hoods.
- Seville is the largest and most famous. The Madrugá – the small hours of Good Friday, 26 March 2027 – is the peak, when the most revered brotherhoods process through the night.
- Málaga is grander and more theatrical, with military units and huge tronos.
- Valladolid and Zamora in Castile are austere, sculptural and near-silent – a completely different experience.
- Granada and Córdoba combine the processions with their own extraordinary settings.
Practical realities: Seville and Málaga are booked out months ahead at multiplied rates; processions close streets unpredictably, so allow far more time than a map suggests; and it is a religious observance, not a show. Behave accordingly.
The clocks go forward on Easter Sunday
Spain moves to summer time on the last Sunday of March, which in 2027 is 28 March – the same day as Easter. Sunset in Madrid jumps from around 19:30 to after 20:30 overnight, and that single change is what starts the Spanish outdoor year.

- Madrid and the interior – around 17°C by day and 6°C at night, dry-ish at about 30 mm. Warm in the sun, cold in the shade, and changeable.
- Barcelona – about 17°C, with roughly 42 mm of rain.
- Andalucía – Seville near 22°C by day; this is the best weather in Spain right now, and one reason Semana Santa there works.
- The Atlantic north – mild and still wet; Galicia is green and Santiago is filling for the Holy Year.
- The Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada – still skiing, with spring snow and long sunny afternoons.
Xacobeo 2027 and the Camino
With the Holy Year running, the Camino de Santiago starts filling from March. The Camino Francés and Camino Portugués are the most affected, and their popular stages book out far earlier than in an ordinary year. If you are walking any part of it in 2027, reserve accommodation now rather than improvising as most pilgrims normally do.
Prices and crowds
Three distinct markets. Valencia is at maximum price for Las Fallas; Seville, Málaga and the Andalusian cities are at maximum for Holy Week; and the first two weeks of March, outside Valencia, are still low season and excellent value.
That first fortnight – 1 to 14 March 2027 – is the sweet spot: spring weather, winter prices and no crowds anywhere except the Valencian mascletà.
