A great winter trip is either an escape from winter or a celebration of it — so this guide ranks both, using five years of real climate data from our open dataset (ERA5, 2019–2023): December–February temperatures and precipitation days for all 94 destinations we track.

Cold is only miserable when it’s wet. These score best for dry cold — the fewest wet or snowy days — which in the mountains means powder and in the cities means blue-sky frost.
