If you were planning a British or Irish trip in that window, plan it around the tournament rather than into it. Elsewhere June is the opening of the northern summer: the Arctic stops getting dark, the Canadian Rockies clear of snow, and the Mediterranean warms up before the August crush.

What makes June 2028 different
Euro 2028 runs 9 June to 9 July 2028 across Wembley and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff, Manchester City Stadium, Everton Stadium in Liverpool, St James' Park in Newcastle, Villa Park in Birmingham, Hampden Park in Glasgow and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Every one of those cities will price accommodation at festival rates on match days, and rail and domestic flights between them will be the busiest of the year. That is a reason to visit if football is the point, and a reason to shift dates or regions if it is not - the Highlands, the west of Ireland, Cornwall and the Lake District are all well away from host cities. Inti Raymi in Cusco falls on 24 June, the Andean winter solstice festival and the busiest day of the Peruvian tourist year. Midsummer runs from 20 to 24 June across the Nordics, with Sweden and Finland effectively shutting down for it.
1. The UK and Ireland: Euro 2028
A month-long tournament spread across eight cities changes the whole country's travel pattern, not just the stadium ones. Book accommodation and inter-city rail as far ahead as the fixture list allows - London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin will all have nights where nothing reasonable is available. If you are not there for football, the counter-programme is good: the Scottish Highlands, the west coast of Ireland, Pembrokeshire and the Northumberland coast are all at their best in June and none of them is a host city.
2. Norway and the Arctic
North of the Arctic Circle the sun does not set at all through most of June, which changes what a day can contain - you can walk a ridge at 11pm in full light. The fjords are at their greenest with waterfalls still fed by snowmelt, every ferry and mountain road is open, and the Lofoten islands are at their most photographed for good reason. It is expensive; self-catering and the Hurtigruten coastal ferry as transport rather than cruise both help.
3. Iceland
June has the longest days of the Icelandic year and the whole ring road plus the Westfjords open and comfortable. The highland F-roads typically start opening from mid-June, though the later ones - Askja, Sprengisandur - can be into July. Puffins are on the cliffs, whale watching from Husavik is at its peak, and the interior is still quiet. Do not plan a June trip around the northern lights; the sky never gets dark enough.
4. The Canadian Rockies
By mid-June the snow has cleared from the valley trails, the Icefields Parkway is running properly, and the glacial lakes have turned the colour they are famous for as meltwater silt suspends in them. It is quieter than July and August and the wildlife is more active. Higher passes may still hold snow into early July. Moraine Lake and Lake Louise both restrict private vehicles - you book a shuttle, and you book it early.
5. Greece and Croatia
The first half of June is the best-value week of the Mediterranean summer: the sea is warm enough for everyone, every ferry runs, and prices are meaningfully below July. The meltemi wind that blows hardest through July and August in the Aegean has not really started. From about the third week, school holidays in northern Europe begin and the difference disappears, so the earlier in June the better.
6. Zambia and Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls
The Zambezi peaks around April and May and stays very high through June, which makes June the month for the full spectacle - the spray column is visible from miles away and the Zimbabwean side gives the broadest view. The trade-off is that the Devil's Pool on the Zambian side only opens when water levels drop, usually from around August. Pair the falls with a few days in South Luangwa or Hwange, both entering their dry season.
7. Bali and Indonesia
June is the start of the Indonesian dry season and the best month of the three - reliable sun, calm seas for Nusa Penida and the Gilis, and noticeably fewer people than July and August. Komodo and Flores are entering their liveaboard season. Base yourself away from the Canggu-Uluwatu traffic corridor - Sidemen, Amed or the Munduk highlands - and day-trip south rather than the other way round.
8. Peru
June is the heart of the Andean dry season: clear mornings, cold nights and the most reliable weather for Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. It is also peak season, and two things sell out - Inca Trail permits and the timed entry circuits at Machu Picchu itself. Inti Raymi on 24 June fills Cusco completely. Give yourself two nights at altitude before any serious walking; Cusco is higher than Machu Picchu.
How to plan a June 2028 trip
Two habits do most of the work on a month-specific trip. First, book the thing that sells out before the thing that does not: permits, festival accommodation and internal transport go long before flights and hotels do, and a trip is usually shaped by whichever of those you miss.
